Timbers Host July Cascadia Responsibility Challenge


Supporters who attended the Portland Timbers match versus Seattle Sounders FC on July 17, 2016 witnessed plenty of excitement at Providence Park as the rivalry match ended 3-1 for the home side.

Supporters helped the Portland Timbers earn points in the Cascadia Responsibility Challenge, a friendly competition presented by Budweiser and el Jimador to find out which club can sign up the most Good Sports – designated drivers for their group as well as responsible drinkers who promise never to drive drunk. Responsible supporters autographed a larger-than-life soccer ball and received a free souvenir photo.


Each designated driver is worth three points in the competition. The Cascadia Responsibility Challenge winner will be the club with the most points at the end of the season. Click here to see the Challenge Standings.

  • In 2014, 9,967 people were killed as a result of alcohol-related (BAC > 0.08) car crashes, a decrease of 1% from the 10,076 fatalities in 2013.
  • Many, if not most of those lives would have been saved if people did not drive when they were impaired by alcohol or if they used sober, designated drivers or if they simply wore their seat belts.
  • Statistics and research clearly show that 21-34 year old males are the demographic most likely to be involved in an automobile crash, drive when impaired by alcohol, and fail to buckle up.
