Vancouver Whitecaps FC hosted their second Cascadia Responsibility Challenge match of the season when the Club faced the Portland Timbers on July 23, 2017. Though the 2-1 final score didn’t go the home side’s way, there were plenty of winners off the field as supporters took the pledge to never drive drunk.
Before the match kicked off, 67 supporters helped Whitecaps FC earn points in the Cascadia Responsibility Challenge, a friendly competition presented by el Jimador to find out which club can sign up the most responsible supporters who promise never to drive drunk. Those fans autographed a larger-than-life soccer ball posed for a free souvenir photo, and received el Jimador and Whitecaps FC branded giveaways.
Each designated driver and responsible supporter earns their favorite Club points in the competition. The Cascadia Responsibility Challenge winner will be the club with the most points at the end of the season.
US DOT / NHTSA 2015 NATIONAL DATA:
- 10,265 people were killed as a result of alcohol-related (BAC > 0.08) car crashes, an increase of 3.2% from the 9,943 fatalities in 2014.
- Many, if not most of those lives would have been saved if people did not drive when they were impaired by alcohol or if they used sober, designated drivers or if they simply wore their seat belts.
- Statistics and research clearly show that 21-34 year old males are the demographic most likely to be involved in an automobile crash, drive when impaired by alcohol, and fail to buckle up.
