EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ. (07/18/2012) – The New York Football Giants, New York Jets and their partners in theBud Light Good Sport Designated Driver Program held a fantasy football event at MetLife Stadium yesterday for fans who pledged to be designated drivers last season. To help promote a positive in-stadium experience for fans and to help make our roads safe, the teams partnered with Anheuser-Busch, Delaware North Companies Sportservice and Techniques for Effective Alcohol Management (TEAM) Coalition to successfully register nearly 11,000 fans for the Bud Light Good Sport Designated Driver Program during the 2011 season – an 87 percent increase from the previous season. The Jets and the Giants each welcomed 25 of their respective fans, along with their guests, for an evening of Punt, Pass & Kick events on the field at MetLife Stadium followed by a reception in the Toyota Coaches Club. The randomly selected winners were chosen from all the fans who registered to be designated drivers last season. To qualify, designated drivers must:

  • Be over the age of 21 and have a valid driver’s license
  • Promise to not drink alcohol at the game
  • Ensure a safe ride home from the game for their friends and family

Giants and Jets fans can sign up at any of the Bud Light Good Sport kiosks located inside the MetLife, Verizon, West and Pepsi Gates, or the guest services booths located on every level of the Stadium. Fans who pledge to be designated drivers receive a complimentary non-alcoholic beverage.

New York Giants fans and New York Jets fans enjoy their time on the field of MetLife Stadium during the Punt Pass and Kick event for Designated Drivers.
“We’re thrilled to see Jets fans embracing the use of designated drivers,” said Neil Glat, President of the New York Jets. “We want our fans to have an enjoyable experience at the stadium and get home safely after every game.””We want every game day to be safe and enjoyable for our fans, both in the stadium and as they travel home after the games,” said Mike Stevens, Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer for the New York Giants. “We’re proud that so many of our fans have chosen to demonstrate responsible behavior.”

“For 30 years, Anheuser-Busch has led our industry in developing responsible drinking initiatives and Bud Light Good Sport, one of our most visible programs, promotes positive fan behavior through the use of designated drivers,” said Kathy Casso, vice president, Corporate Social Responsibility at Anheuser-Busch. “The Fantasy Football event at MetLife Stadium was a wonderful way to thank fans for volunteering to be the designated driver and for doing their part to help keep our roads safe.”

“Sobriety is no accident,” said Sportservice president Rick Abramson. “That’s why we work closely with our clients to strongly promote and advocate that fans make responsible decisions when it comes to alcohol and to take appropriate action, including declining to serve them, when they do not. The designated driver program is an important component of the alcohol management program at MetLife Stadium.”

“The success of the Bud Light Good Sport program at MetLife Stadium is a direct result of the commitment from the NFL, the NFL teams, the concessionaire, the wholesalers and all the campaign partners,” said Jill Pepper, executive director of TEAM Coalition. “Teamwork is what the program is all about. We are demonstrating that when everyone – including the fans – takes responsibility, everyone wins.”

According to a survey conducted by ORC International’s CARAVAN®, the majority of sports fans adults 21 and older, who drink alcohol beverages, said they drink responsibly and in moderation.
