(Denver, CO) TEAM Coalition (Techniques for Effective Alcohol Management) proudly recognized this year’s training certification and designated-driver program award winners at the 2011 MLS Soccer Operations Seminar on Wednesday January 26, 2011.TEAM Coalition is a unique alliance of professional and collegiate sports, entertainment facilities, concessionaires, stadium service providers, the beer industry, broadcasters, governmental traffic safety experts, and others working together to promote responsible drinking and positive fan behavior at sports and entertainment facilities. Click for a complete list of TEAM Coalition members.

“We’re proud to continue the tradition of recognizing those MLS clubs that have embraced TEAM training and the designated-driver program,” said Jill Pepper, TEAM executive director. “Each year we continue to see more MLS clubs participate in TEAM training and the number of MLS fans who pledged to be designated drivers this season is twice that of the previous year. This growth is a testament to MLS’s commitment to alcohol management and its positive impact on fan behavior.”

2010 TEAM Training Award Winners
In 2010, more than 40,000 employees from over 100 facilities became certified in the training. The 3,800 Major League Soccer operations employees (ushers, ticket takers, and guest services representatives) and the employees of concessionaire companies and security companies at MLS stadiums represented nearly 10% of that total.
D.C. United managers Kevin Donovan andJon Radke proudly display the Excellent Performer training award. 50% of D.C. United game day employees became TEAM certified in 2010. New England Revolution’s Kelly Heardshows off their Prestigious Achievement award. 100% of New England Revolution employees are TEAM certified.
2010 Designated Driver Award Winners
In 2010, over 12,600 MLS fans pledged to be designated drivers. That is a 50% increase over the previous season. The 2009 Designated Driver for the Season from the Colorado Rapids – Larry Gloss – attended the 2010 AT&T MLS All-Star Game at Reliant Stadium in Houston, TX. And the Designated Drivers for the season from FC Dallas – Phil Green – and the MLS Cup 2010 Champion Colorado Rapids – Zerain Martinez attended MLS Cup 2010 at BMO Field in Toronto, ON.
