Responsible race fans earned valuable rewards at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway during the Indianapolis 500 weekend (May 25, 26 and 27, 2018) through a partnership between the track, MillerCoors and TEAM Coalition. The partners promoted responsible drinking and drunk driving prevention at Friday’s Miller Lite Carb Day, Firestone Legends Day on Saturday and the Snake Pit Presented by Coors Light on race day Sunday.
Throughout the weekend, more than 1,384 fans made the pledge to be responsible – never to drive drunk and end their night with a safe ride home. All of them had the opportunity to autograph the responsibility wall, to receive a free souvenir photo and instant prizes. Fans shared their digital photos and the responsibility message by posting photos on Facebook and Twitter. The 673 photos taken before the race were viewed 1,351 times, an average of 2 views per photo.
US DOT / NHTSA 2016 NATIONAL DATA:
• In 2016, 10,497 people were killed as a result of alcohol-related (BAC > 0.08) car crashes, an increase of 1.7% from the 10,265 fatalities in 2015.
• Many, if not most of those lives would have been saved if people did not drive when they were impaired by alcohol or if they used sober, designated drivers or if they simply wore their seat belts.
• Statistics and research clearly show that 21-34 year old males are the demographic most likely to be involved in an automobile crash, drive when impaired by alcohol, and fail to buckle up.
