Supporters who attended the Portland Timbers match versus Seattle Sounders FC on August 28, 2016 witnessed a dominant performance at Providence Park as the rivalry match ended 4-2 for the Green and Gold.
Supporters helped the Portland Timbers earn points in the Cascadia Responsibility Challenge, a friendly competition presented by el Jimador and Budweiser to find out which club can sign up the most Good Sports – designated drivers for their group as well as responsible drinkers who promise never to drive drunk. Responsible supporters autographed a larger-than-life soccer ball and received a free souvenir photo.
Each designated driver is worth three points in the competition. The Cascadia Responsibility Challenge winner will be the club with the most points at the end of the season. Click here to see the Challenge Standings.
Portland Timbers, Budweiser, el Jimador and TEAM Coalition partnered to promote responsible drinking at Providence Park in Portland, OR encouraging supporters to become designated drivers.
US DOT / NHTSA 2015 NATIONAL DATA:
- In 2015, 10,265 people were killed as a result of alcohol-related (BAC > 0.08) car crashes, an increase of 3.2% from the 9,943 fatalities in 2014.
- Many, if not most of those lives would have been saved if people did not drive when they were impaired by alcohol or if they used sober, designated drivers or if they simply wore their seat belts.
- Statistics and research clearly show that 21-34 year old males are the demographic most likely to be involved in an automobile crash, drive when impaired by alcohol, and fail to buckle up.
