Live Nation Goes Digital with Designated Driver Programs at Seven Venues

09/30/2016

For the 2016 concert season, seven Live Nation venues across the country used digital signups to enhance their designated driver programs with great success. Concert goers pledged to provide safe transportation for their group. In exchange for being responsible, they received a free soft drink and a photo opportunity. They had the option to take the pledge on an iPad at the venue or on their own smartphone.

The venues were Ascend Amphitheater in Nashville, TN; Alpine Valley Music Theatre in Elkhorn, WI; Blossom Music Center in Cuyahoga Falls, OH; KeyBank Pavilion in Burgettstown, PA; Nikon at Jones Beach in Wantagh NY; Saratoga Performing Arts Center in Saratoga Springs, NY; and XFINITY Theatre in Hartford, CT. In total, these venues had nearly 5,000 designated driver pledges.

TEAM Coalition, Live Nation and Legends plan to expand the digital program for the 2017 season.

Live Nation and its beverage partner, Legends, have proven their commitment to alcohol responsibility in several ways. Certifying an impressive number of employees in TEAM’s alcohol management training program in the last two years and offering fans a fun, easy and cool way to pledge to be designated drivers are impressive examples of reasonable efforts to ensure the fan experience is the best, safest possible.Jill Pepper, Executive Director, TEAM Coalition

US DOT / NHTSA 2015 NATIONAL DATA:

• In 2015, 10,265 people were killed as a result of alcohol-related (BAC > 0.08) car crashes, an increase of 3.2% from the 9,943 fatalities in 2014.

• Many, if not most of those lives would have been saved if people did not drive when they were impaired by alcohol or if they used sober, designated drivers or if they simply wore their seat belts.

• Statistics and research clearly show that 21-34 year old males are the demographic most likely to be involved in an automobile crash
