Before the race, 239 fans made the pledge to be designated drivers for their group. All of them had the opportunity to receive a free souvenir photo, instant prizes, and a chance to be selected as the Designated Driver for the Race. One randomly selected, responsible fan will win the “Responsibility Has Its Rewards sweepstakes.” The grand prize includes two tickets and a VIP experience for two at the 2017 NASCAR Cup Series™ race at Watkins Glen International on August 6, 2017.

While we want every fan that comes to Watkins Glen International to enjoy everything about their race experience as much as possible, safety is always the top priority. With that in mind, we commend the fans that chose to serve as designated drivers for their family or friends during race weekend.Michael Printup, President, Watkins Glen International

US DOT / NHTSA 2014 NATIONAL DATA:

• In 2014, 9,967 people were killed as a result of alcohol-related (BAC > 0.08) car crashes, a decrease of 1% from the 10,076 fatalities in 2013.

• Many, if not most of those lives would have been saved if people did not drive when they were impaired by alcohol or if they used sober, designated drivers or if they simply wore their seat belts.

• Statistics and research clearly show that 21-34 year old males are the demographic most likely to be involved in an automobile crash, drive when impaired by alcohol, and fail to buckle up.
